Medical travel itineraries

Day-by-day plans that actually work

Most visitors sort out the visa and the hospital — then forget about the trip itself. These are realistic itineraries for the three most common medical trips to China: a fast imaging scan, an executive health screening, and dental implant treatment. The medical schedule is what we plan for you; the travel notes are general info you arrange separately.

Itineraries are planning guides, not medical advice. Your actual schedule depends on the hospital, your condition and the doctor's instructions.

Option A · Fast imaging trip

Coming for one scan — PET-CT, MRI or CT

This one works if you need a single diagnostic scan, don't need surgery or a long treatment plan, and want to get in, get it done and get home — or fit it into a business stopover.

  • Single scan, no surgery
  • Tight schedule or business stopover
  • Results explained in English before you leave
  • DICOM files + written English report
DayPlanNotes
Day 1Arrive, hotel check-in, restLight dinner, early night. Long-haul flights and jet lag can throw off blood work and stress readings, so we never book your scan for landing day.
Day 2Hospital registration → blood sample if required → imaging scan (PET-CT / MRI / CT)Short consultation, raw imaging data handed over. Nothing heavy in the evening.
Day 3Doctor reviews full results with you → DICOM image files + written English reportFly home — or start sightseeing if you're staying on.

Things people forget

  • Bring previous scans. Old imaging (DICOM preferred) lets the radiologist compare — it changes the quality of the report you take home.
  • PET-CT prep matters. Usually a few hours of fasting and controlled blood sugar. We confirm the exact prep with the hospital before you fly.
  • Tell us about implants or claustrophobia. MRI safety screening is standard — easier if we know in advance.
  • Book flexible flights. Scan delays happen; a refundable ticket is worth the few extra dollars.

If your case needs more than a scan — follow-up tests, a second opinion, a treatment plan — this 2–3 day window probably isn't enough. Send us your records first and we'll tell you honestly.

Where to stay

Near the hospital you're visiting. Shanghai's main medical districts — Ruijin, Huashan, Zhongshan — have hotels in every price range.

Getting around

Shanghai's metro covers all major hospitals; taxis and ride-hailing are cheap by Western standards.

Sightseeing

One full day is enough for the Bund and Yu Garden if you're staying on. Keep it light after a PET-CT — you'll be asked to avoid close contact with pregnant women and kids for a few hours.

Hotel, airport pickup and tours are arranged separately — ask us about bundled add-ons below.

Option B · Executive health screening

A full check-up, done properly, in 3–4 days

For a full preventive assessment — blood panels, multi-modality imaging, cardiac and pulmonary checks, specialist consultations. This is the trip most business travellers and expats start with: one thorough health check, results explained in English, and you still have time for a proper day out.

  • Full blood panel + imaging + cardiac check
  • English-speaking coordination throughout
  • Paper + digital English report before you leave
  • Half a day free for sightseeing
DayPlanNotes
Day 1Arrive, hotel check-in, settle inAdjust to the time difference. Rest — don't stay up.
Day 2Fasting: blood & urine tests, basic measurements → CT / MRI / ultrasound imagingYou fast in the morning; we schedule imaging right after the blood draw so the whole morning flows.
Day 3Cardiac and pulmonary tests, remaining items → first discussion with the specialistSome lab results take 24h; we wait for them rather than rush a half-finished report.
Day 4Full results debrief, English paper + digital report → depart or sightseeingLeave with everything, or spend the afternoon on the Bund / French Concession.

Things people forget

  • Fasting is non-negotiable. No food and no sweet drinks on the morning of Day 2 — water is fine.
  • Bring your medication list. Generic chemical names, not just brand names — plus any allergies, written in English and Chinese.
  • Don't book the return flight for Day 2. Results need a full day to come together; leave at least one day between the checks and your departure.
  • Travel insurance with medical evacuation. Cheap to add, and the one thing you don't want to be without.

Package content varies by hospital and screening centre — the price list on our Packages page shows exactly what each level includes.

Where to stay

Near the screening centre — most are in central Shanghai; ask us which hotel area matches your package.

Getting around

Metro + taxi covers everything; most hotels near hospitals have English-speaking front desks.

What to pack

Comfortable clothes for the imaging morning (no metal zips for MRI day), your passport, and a copy of the pre-trip questionnaire we send you.

Option C · All-on-4 dental implants

Full-arch implants — a week that changes your mouth

For full-arch implant rehabilitation (All-on-4 / All-on-6 style). Complex cases normally need a second return visit 3–6 months later for the final crowns; this stay covers surgery plus temporary prosthetics, so you leave with teeth you can live with.

  • Surgery + temporary teeth in one stay
  • Second visit 3–6 months later for final crowns
  • Full records + aftercare instructions to take home
  • Gentle sightseeing between appointments
DayPlanNotes
Day 1Arrive, hotel check-in, restNothing irritating — no spicy or hard food tonight.
Day 2Dental consultation, oral CT scan, final treatment plan confirmed, paperwork signedThis is the day to ask everything — we make sure you fully understand the plan and the costs before signing.
Day 3Implant surgery, in-hospital observation afterSoft food tonight. Rest is the treatment.
Day 4Post-op review, recovery checkLight activity allowed; keep to soft food.
Day 5–6Follow-ups and adjustments on the temporary prostheticsGentle sightseeing between appointments, if you feel comfortable.
Day 7Final discharge briefing, all medical records collected → fly homeYou leave with written aftercare instructions and a clear schedule for the second visit.

Things people forget

  • It's a two-visit treatment. The final crowns come 3–6 months later. Budget for the second trip before you book the first.
  • Blood-thinning meds must be flagged early. The surgeon needs to know before you fly, not on the day.
  • Food plan for the week. Soft foods, then liquids after surgery — plan this before you arrive, don't discover it hungry.
  • Never sign anything you don't fully understand. We translate the consent forms with you before you sign.

Dental pricing varies widely by implant system and clinic — you'll get a fixed quote after the Day 2 consultation, before any surgery.

Practical travel notes — general info, arranged separately

Where to stay

Within 20–30 minutes of the clinic — you'll be there multiple times over the week.

Food

Stock your hotel room with soft foods (yogurt, soup, congee, mashed things) before surgery day.

Sightseeing

Days 5–6 are your window — light walking tours, no extreme sports, nothing that risks the surgical site.

Hotel, airport pickup and tours are arranged separately — ask us about bundled add-ons below.
